Adjusting to going back to work

Going back to work is a huge lifestyle change!

I survived the first 3 days! Man, this is going to be rough. My once perfect daily routine has been thrown out the window. My house is a wreck, my mind is a wreck, and I am just exhausted. Being a stay-at-home mom for 5 years, you get used to the way things are. You develop a groove, a routine to maintaining your house. You know how to make each day work. Cleaning house becomes easy because you know what has to be cleaned and when, and you have time to get it done. Your kids are on the same routine, time for play, time for lunch, and time to behave so Mom can get things done. 

Then, you go back to work. You wake up earlier, with only time for half the coffee you usually drink, quickly get dressed and out the door. Meanwhile, the rest of the house is sound asleep, ready to wake up and tornado through the house while you are gone. After an 8 hour day and a 30 minute drive home, you walk in exhausted. The kids are so excited you are home. You grab them and squeeze them, (because you really did miss them too) and look around at the disaster that was not there when you left this morning. Or maybe is was too dark in the house to notice. Either way, you know what has to be done but you are way to tired to think about that now. First things first. Your kids are hungry! You drink a cup of coffee so you can make it through the evening and start on dinner. With a little more zip in your step, you try to clean as much as you can while you have that coffee flavored energy boost. By eight o’clock you are spent.

Just try to relax and unwind before bed without falling asleep before you actually get there. Only to wake up and do it again. There is no routine at home anymore and it will take me a while to get used to this. Oh, and then of course school starts the next week. So then I have to run one babe to daycare, get three more ready for school. Then off to pick them all up after school and on to after school activities. And who knows when I will go to the grocery store. I will probably have to force myself to go when my family is screaming for food. 

I spent so much time researching stay-at-home moms because I wanted to be the best one that I could be. It has helped me stay organized and create this blog, having to time to actually write it. I feel blessed to have been able to stay home with my girls. Now, it is time to start researching Working Moms because I clearly don’t have it figured out yet. I know it will come together in time, but geez, this working stuff is difficult with a family of 6. Luckily I have a wonderful, understanding, and helpful husband who will try to make it as easy on me as possible. He is amazing!

So, all you working mommas out there, any helpful tips you could leave me would be much appreciated as I continue on this life-changing venture of mine!
